The mechanism of action of metronidazole is the biochemical reduction of the 5-nitro group of metronidazole by intracellular transport proteins of anaerobic bacteria and protozoa. The reduced 5-nitro group of metronidazole disrupts DNA replication (respectively protein synthesis) and inhibits cellular respiration, which leads to the death of the microorganism. Effective against simple Trichomonas vaginalis, Gardnerella vaginalis, Giardia intestinalis, Entamoeba histolytica, anaerobic bacteria (Bacteroides fragilis, B. distasonis, B. ovatus, B. thetaiotaomicron, B. vulgatus), Fusobacterium spp., Veillonela spp.), some gram-positive bacteria (Eubacterium spp., Clostridium spp., Peptococcus spp., Peptostreptococcus spp). The active substance is brought to the level of nanoparticles, which can significantly increase the effectiveness of the drug. After oral administration, metronidazole is quickly absorbed from the digestive tract and easily penetrates organs and tissues. Reaches bactericidal concentrations in most tissues and fluids of the animal's body, including the brain, cerebrospinal fluid, abscess cavities, bile, and amniotic fluid. Metronidazole is excreted from the body in the urine 1-2 days after administration.
Indications: Treatment of pigs, cattle, dogs and cats with diarrhea, dysentery, trichomoniasis, giardiasis, colitis, stomatitis, as well as diseases of the respiratory and genitourinary systems, gastrointestinal tract and skin caused by microorganisms sensitive to metronidazole.
Application: Administer orally with drinking water in the dose: cattle and pigs - 3 ml of the drug per 10 kg of animal body weight (15 mg of metronidazole per 1 kg of animal body weight), for dysentery the dose is increased (4 ml of the drug per 1 kg of animal body weight) , dogs and cats - 1 ml per 10 kg of body weight (5 mg of metronidazole per 10 kg of animal body weight)), for dysentery the dose is increased (2 ml per 10 kg of animal body weight). The drug is used until clinical symptoms disappear (usually 3-5 days). The drug has a prolonged effect and is well absorbed.
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to metronidazole. Do not use in animals with damage to the central nervous system and in the first third of pregnancy. Do not use on puppies and kittens.
Cautions: The drug should be used with caution in animals with liver and kidney diseases. The dose of the drug in such cases should be reduced accordingly. With long-term use, it is necessary to monitor blood composition.
