Doses and method of application
The drug is given to cats and dogs once a day, individually with food in a crushed form, or injected into the root of the tongue forcibly. The daily dose depends on the weight and the animal and is 2 mg per 1 kg of animal weight. The duration of the course of treatment is from five to forty days for infections of the skin and soft tissues, from 1 to 3 weeks for diseases of the respiratory organs, and from 10 days to 4 weeks for diseases of the genitourinary system. The drug should be crushed without gaps due to the fact that this may lead to a decrease in therapeutic efficacy. In case of missing a dose, the use of marfloxin is resumed at the same dosage and according to the same scheme.
Pharmacological properties
Marfloxin Marbofloxacin belongs to the group of fluoroquinolones and has a wide spectrum of bactericidal action based on the suppression of bacterial DNA replication. Bioavailability is about 100%. The maximum concentration in the blood is reached after two hours, the elimination half-life is 10 hours in cats and 14 hours in dogs. Marbofloxacin is excreted from the body mainly in unchanged form with bile and urine. Refers to low-hazard substances in terms of the degree of impact on the body (according to GOST 12.1.007-76 hazard class 4).
Contraindications
A contraindication to the use of the drug is the individual hypersensitivity of a cat or dog to the components of the drug. It is forbidden to use puppies under 1 year old (puppies of large breeds - up to 1.5 years old), kittens up to two months old, as well as animals with lesions of the central nervous system. Simultaneously with cationic drugs (calcium, iron, aluminum, magnesium preparations), it is not recommended to use Marfloxin tablets due to a possible decrease in absorption in the gastrointestinal tract, as well as with tetracycline, macrolide antibiotics and chloramphenicol. The drug is not intended for the treatment of productive animals.
Side effects
Side effects when using marfloxin at the recommended dose in animals have not been identified. Gastrointestinal phenomena, such as softening of the stool and vomiting, are possible, which do not require discontinuation of the drug and disappear after treatment.
