INTERTRIM 100 ML
Storage
In 1 ml of solution: sulfamethoxazole 200 mg; trimethoprim 40 mg
solvent 1 ml.
Description
In appearance, Intertrim® is a transparent, colorless solution.
Pharmacological properties
Sulfamethoxazole is a sulfonamide drug of medium duration of action, disrupts the process of obtaining by microbes the growth factors necessary for their development - folic acid and other substances, the molecules of which include paraaminobenzene acid. Under the influence of sulfamethoxazole, the formation of methionine, purine and pyrimidine bases in the microbial cell is blocked, which in turn leads to disruption of the synthesis of nucleic acids and nucleoproteins. Sulfamethoxazole shows the ability to neutralize endotoxins in the body, the maximum concentration in the blood is reached after 1-2 hours. after administration, the therapeutic level is maintained for 10-12 hours. Due to the combination of antipyretic and antiallergic properties with bacteriostatic effect, sulfamethoxazole can be used for various diseases accompanied by inflammatory processes. Trimethoprim is a synthetic antimicrobial drug, a diaminopyrimidine derivative, acts against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, blocking the reduction of dihydrofolic acid into tetrahydrofolic acid, which is necessary for the development of microorganisms. Pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic properties of trimethoprim are similar to similar properties of long-acting sulfonamides. Trimethoprim is quickly absorbed when administered intramuscularly and penetrates into all tissues of the body. The maximum concentration in the blood is noted 30-40 minutes after administration and is maintained for 7 hours. High concentrations are created in the lungs and kidneys. A significant amount of trimethoprim is excreted in the urine. The combination of sulfamethoxazole with trimethoprim has a greater bacteriostatic and bactericidal effect on pathogenic microflora than each substance alone, providing a well-defined therapeutic effect.
Indications for use
The drug is used for the treatment and prevention of diseases of bacterial etiology in cattle, pigs, sheep and goats; with infections of the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory organs, and urinary tract infections. The following types of pathogens are highly sensitive to the drug: E. coli, Klebsiella, Enterobacter, Proteus, Citrobacter, Salmonella spp., Shigella, Haemophilus spp., Vibriocholerae, Listeria, Pneumocystiscarinii, Pasteurella spp., Staphylococcus and Streptococcus spp.
The combination of sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim allows the highly effective use of Intertrim® in the treatment of piglet dysentery caused by Borrelia hiodysenteria. Before use, the sensitivity of the causative strains to sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim should be checked.
Contraindications and warnings
During the period of use of Intertrim®, animals should not be given drugs that easily split sulfur (Glauber's salt), aminoglycosides (gentamicin, neomycin, streptomycin), as well as muscle relaxants and anesthetics due to the risk of respiratory muscle paralysis
Side effects
In very rare cases, allergic reactions may occur. With long-term use in large doses, crystalluria (hematuria) may be observed. In this case, it is recommended to stop the administration of the drug, simultaneously prescribing sodium carbonate (to increase the solubility of sulfamethoxazole in urine).
Dosage
The drug is administered intramuscularly, twice a day, with an interval of 12 hours, for 3 — 5 days. In case of extreme necessity, for example, with sepsis, it is possible to administer the drug intravenously with special care and very slowly. Dosage of Intertrim® for:
cattle and sows is 1 ml per 20 kg of live weight of the animal;
to calves, piglets, sheep and goats, the drug is administered at the rate of 1 ml per 10 kg of the animal's live weight.
Drug withdrawal period
The period of complete removal of the drug from the body of animals: meat 12 days; milk 4 days.
Limitations in application
The meat of animals forcibly slaughtered before the expiration of the specified terms is used directly for feeding carnivores or for the production of meat and bone meal. Milk after heat treatment is used only for feeding animals.
Storage
Store the drug in a dry place, protected from light, at a temperature of 15 — 25°C.
Packaging
Dark glass bottle of 100 ml.
The expiration date is on the package.
