PHARMACOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS
Ftorfenicol is a derivative of thiamphenicol, in which the hydroxyl group is substituted by fluorine atom that determines its antibacterial activity against acetyltransferasesynthesizing bacteria that are sensitive to chloramphenicol. It is a bacteriostatic synthetic agent with a broad-spectrum of action. Ftorfenicol inhibits the synthesis of proteins in bacterial cells. In the cytoplasm it binds with the 70Sribosomal subunitsin which inhibits the enzyme activityof peptidyl transferase and thus inhibiting protein synthesis in ribosomes of appropriate bacteria.
Ftorfenicol active against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Pasteurella multocida, Salmonella spp.(including Salmonella choleraesuis), Haemophilus spp., Proteus spp., Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp.(including Streptococcus suis), Shigella spp., Klebsiella spp., Enterobacter spp., Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Bordetella bronchiseptica, Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae, Mycoplasma hyorhinis and others.
APPLICATION
Chickens: treatment of poultry suffering from coli-infection, staphylococcal infection, pasteurellosis and respiratory diseases, caused by sensitive to ftorfenicol microorganisms.
Pigs: treatment of animals suffering from pleuropneumonia, atrophic rhinitis, Hlessera disease (polyserositis haemophilosis), as well as other diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to ftorfenicol.
DOSAGE
Orally with drinking water at a dose:
Chickens – for chickens up to 4 weeks – ftorfenicol 20 mg per 1 kg of body weight or 100 ml per 100 liters of drinking water every day; for chickens older than 4 weeks – 200 ml per 100 liters of drinking water every day. The course of treatment – 3-5 days.
Pigs– 1.5-2 mg ftorfenicol per 1 kg of body weight, which corresponds to 1.5-2 ml per 100 kg of body weight every day for 7 days.
During the treatment give water to animals only with drug. Do not give to animals any other water to drink. If it is not possible, the daily dose should be divided into two stages: the first half of dose inject in the morning, the second – in 12 hours.
PRECAUTIONS
Slaughter of animals for meat is allowed after 2 days (chickens) and 1 day (pigs) since the last application of the drug. By the deadline, depending on the conclusion of doctor of veterinary medicine meat fed to unproductive animals or utilize.
Incase of mixing drug in water at a concentration higher than 1 g of ftorfenicol per 1 liter of drinking water activeingredient can precipitate.
STORAGE
Dry dark, inaccessible to children place at temperature from + 5°C to 30°C; after the first opening – at temperature between + 5°C to 25°C.
Expiration date – 2 years from date of manufacture. Expiration date after first opening of the package – 28 days.
