Pharmacological properties
Ivermectin (22,23-dihydroavermectin B1) is a semisynthetic derivative of the biosynthesis product of actinomycetes of the Streptomyces avermitilis species, one of the avermectins belonging to the group of macrocyclic lactones from the class of antibiotics.
The mechanism of action consists in stimulating the release of gamma-aminobutyric acid, which blocks the transmission of nerve impulses through the interneurons of the ventral nerve trunk of nematodes and the neuromuscular connections of arthropods, which leads to paralysis and death of the parasites.
After administration of 12 mg of ivermectin, it is rapidly absorbed, reaching the maximum concentration in blood plasma (about 50 μg/l) after 4 hours. Penetrates into all tissues, but slowly and in a limited amount - into the membranes of the eye. The half-life is 28 hours. Almost completely excreted with feces.

After the last use of the drug, pigs can be slaughtered for meat after 21 days, rabbits after 16 days.
