STRONGHOLD DROPS for dogs and cats 3 pipettes (3 Month Supply)
Pharmacological properties
Selamectin has a broad spectrum of systemic antiparasitic action against nematodes, insects and sarcoptic mites parasitizing dogs and cats. Stronghold has a detrimental effect on the larvae of round helminths, and also has ovocidal properties. The drug does not affect sexually mature nematodes Dirofilaria immitis, but reduces the number of microfilariae circulating in the blood, and it can be safely used even in previously infested animals. The mechanism of action of the drug lies in the ability of selamectin, by binding to the receptors of the cells of the muscle and nervous tissue of parasites, to increase the permeability of the membranes for chlorine ions, which leads to the blockade of the electrical activity of the nerve and muscle cells of nematodes and arthropods, their paralysis and death. Due to the fact that in mammals these receptors are localized only in the central nervous system, while selamectin does not cross the blood-brain barrier; in the recommended doses, the drug is safe for dogs and cats. Stronghold is well absorbed from the application site. Selamectin remains in the blood for a long time at a therapeutic concentration, ensuring the destruction of parasites and protection of animals from reinvasion for a month. Stronghold refers to compounds with low toxicity for warm-blooded animals (LD50 of selamectin for mice when administered orally is 1600 mg / kg). The drug is well tolerated by dogs of different breeds (including collies) and cats. ensuring the destruction of parasites and protection of animals from reinfection within a month. Indications
Assign to dogs and cats to kill fleas (Сtenocefalides spp.) And prevent re-infection of animals within 1 month after application of the drug. For the treatment of allergic flea dermatitis as part of complex therapy. For the prevention and treatment of otodectosis (ear scabies) caused by O. cynotis and sarcoptic mange caused by S. scabiei. For deworming in toxocariasis caused by Toxocara cati, Toxocara canis, and hookworm caused by Ancylostomatubaeforme. For the prevention of dirofilariasis in regions where Dirofilaria immitis is registered.
Doses and method of administration
Stronghold is used only externally. Before applying the drug, remove the pipette from the blister and, holding it vertically, press the cap in order to pierce the foil covering the pipette, then remove the cap. The drug is applied directly to the dry skin of the animal. To do this, the wool is pushed between the shoulder blades at the base of the neck and the contents of the pipette are completely squeezed out, avoiding it falling on the hands. Do not massage the site of application of the drug. Stronghold is prescribed once, the dose is chosen taking into account the type and weight of the animal. In each specific case, a solution is applied from one pipette with a cap of the corresponding color, and the dose, calculated on the active ingredient, is 6 mg of selamectin per 1 kg of animal weight. In case of simultaneous infection of an animal with several types of parasites
1 – example: for dogs weighing from 40 to 50 kg, 2 pipettes are used simultaneously: one with purple and one with dark green caps.
2 – example: for a cat weighing from 7.5 to 10 kg, 2 pipettes are used simultaneously: one with purple and one with blue caps.
To kill fleas and prevent re-infection: Stronghold is used once a month during the flea season. The drug destroys adult fleas that are on dogs and cats within 24 – 26 hours after application and protects against re-invasion for 30 days. By destroying flea eggs, Stronghold interrupts the development cycle of the parasite and prevents the next generation of fleas from emerging. Monthly use of the drug not only directly protects animals from infection, but also destroys the residual flea population (eggs and larvae) in the house or apartment. In this case, the use of the drug should be started one month before the onset of the flea activity season.
Stronghold, already a month after the first application, provides a sharp decrease in the number of fleas in the animal’s habitats.
Treatment of otodectosis (ear scabies) in dogs and cats: Stronghold is used once. In the course of treatment, it is recommended to clean the ear canal from exudate and scabs, and in cases of complications of otodectosis with otitis media, prescribe appropriate treatment with antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory drugs. If necessary, the course of treatment is repeated after 1 month.
Treatment of sarcoptic mange in dogs: Stronghold is used twice with an interval of 1 month. In order to prevent possible invasion, the drug is recommended to be used once a month.
Treatment of tocoscarosis and ankylostomiasis in dogs and cats: Stronghold is used for therapeutic purposes once, and for prophylactic purposes – monthly.
Prevention of dirofilariasis: Stronghold is used once a month during the mosquito-carrying season. The drug completely prevents infection of dogs and cats by killing microfilariae and preventing them from becoming adult nematodes. Since Stronghold has no effect on adult dirofilariae, its use is absolutely safe in infested animals. In order to protect animals that are imported into regions where dirofilariasis is common, it is recommended to appoint Stronghold one month before the expected date of import. The last treatment of the animal with Stronghold should be done within one month after the end of the mosquito-carrying season. If the monthly interval between stronghold applications has been exceeded, it is necessary to apply the drug as soon as possible.
Side effects
With proper use and dosage, side effects are usually not observed.
Contraindications
Increased individual sensitivity to the drug. It is forbidden to use Stronghold in puppies and kittens under 6 weeks of age, sick with infectious diseases and recovering animals. Do not use the drug inside or inject. When treating otodectosis, do not inject Stronghold directly into the ear canal. It is not recommended to apply the drug to damp animal skin. After applying the drug, do not allow the treated animal to come into contact with a fire source and high temperature until the animal’s hair is completely dry.
Special instructions
It is forbidden to smoke, drink or eat during the procedure. At the end of the procedure, you should wash your hands with warm water and soap. In case of accidental contact of the drug on the skin or mucous membranes, it must be washed off immediately with a stream of water. It is not recommended to wash, iron and let the animal near small children within 2 hours after treatment with the drug. After this time, the animal can be washed even with shampoo, which does not reduce the effectiveness of Stronghold. Empty pipettes from the preparation must not be used for household purposes, they are thrown into waste containers.
Storage conditions
Store in a dry, dark place, out of the reach of children and animals. Away from heaters and open flames. Separated from food and feed at a temperature not exceeding 30 ° C.
Shelf life is 3 years.
